This week, a series for journalists

, ,

I am speaking at the American Society of Journalists and Authors in New York this Sunday. So I thought that in addition to regular posts, I’d do a little series this week on tips for writers.

I have never done a series, but I’ve seen them done on other blogs, so I thought I’d try it. When other bloggers do it, they give a schedule. So, here’s my schedule:

Monday: How to be a freelance writer without starving

Tuesday: How to move from print journalism to online journalism

Wednesday: How journalists can use LinkedIn

Thursday Sunday: Why journalists misquote everyone… or do they? (And how I met my husband)

Friday Saturday: Seven ways to get an agent’s attention

This sounds great. I’m looking forward to reading the other articles over the rest of the week. It’s interesting that Tuesday’s post is about print to online, because some of us millenials have the opposite problem (lots of opportunities to write for websites, not as many chances to write for newspaper or magazines).

I can’t wait to read Thursday’s installment. As a reporter who was never accused of misquoting a source, I often had to bend over backwards to reassure people that I wouldn’t misquote them. I’m interested to hear your take on the subject.

Don’t forget to go back and link your series posts to each other, so that people can start either at the beginning or end or stumble onto a middle post but still find everything else. I did a Walt Disney World series and let several posts go up before I realized I’d better go back and make the series easy to navigate.

Enjoy the ASJA get-together; I hope to have enough of a portfolio soon to apply to join. Whether I’ll make it to NYC for their meeting is another matter….:)
