Yep, that’s right. I’m going to tell you how to write a blog that will help you meet your goals. Tuesday night at 8 p.m. eastern. The chat will be upbeat and inspirational. At the beginning. And then I will rant about my pet peeves. For example:
- Why you should not try to make money from your blog
- Why you should not start a second blog
- Why you should take care to link to other blogs, a lot
But mostly, I’ll answer your questions, which you can ask in real-time.
I’m doing this video stuff with Ryan Paugh. (I am linking to his personal blog to show you that I take my own advice.) Ryan keeps coming to these events a little bit drunk. But that doesn’t stop us from getting rave reviews. Here’s one he forwarded to me from his mom: “Great job, Ry.”
So sign up here. And you will have a great blog. Or you will at least know why you don’t.

Yes! We are recording. Thank you, everyone, for all the requests. That’s nice. And persuasive. I am not sure where we’ll post the recording, but I’ll let you know.

I third that request; I have something Tuesday night but would otherwise love to view the presentation. Thanks.

I’m with them! Can’t make it – it would be 2am in my Old Continent side – which would mean finishing around 4am?! ;P

Penelope,
It would be great if you could do a follow-up blog post on why we shouldn’t try and make money from our blogs. I have to miss tomorrow’s webcast, and I noticed you would be touching on that.
Do you think a person can only write from the heart when they blog for free, for example?
Keep up the great work!

I too would like to know why making money from blogs is one of your pet peeves. I have been working online for over 11 years, and this is one thing that I just don’t understand. Blogging, in my mind is a great way to make money, been there done that and after working for myself for the last 11 years, I just can’t see where it would be wrong??
Posted by Allen on March 2, 2010 at 9:23 pm | permalink |
Hi Penelope,
I am with the others, can you record it? I am going to be on a 14 hour flight Tuesday and can’t get online. I appreciate your generous information and would love to hear your advice.
Cheers and take good care, V

I live for Brazen Careerist webinars! It’s informative information that TRULY makes a difference in defining one’s career path and making it what YOU want, but wait there’s more! @penelopetrunk, @PaughGinney see you two tomorrow! =]
Posted by AndreavLewis on March 1, 2010 at 9:11 pm | permalink |
Ditto? About the great webinars. But also about having another commitment tomorrow night. I seventh (or eighth or whatever it is) the suggestion to record or transcribe it.

Penelope, I’m going to be on tomorrow, but I’ve got a blogging question for you now: I just published a post, and because it features someone you reference a lot — Temple Grandin — I was hoping you wouldn’t mind giving it a critique?
Posted by Erika Harris on March 1, 2010 at 10:51 pm | permalink |
I would love to see this recorded also. I’m with the others on this and can’t make it, but would hate to miss out on the value you’re giving.

It is such a shame that I’m busy on Tuesday nights too~ this looks amazing! I get tired of seeing all of the “make money by blogging” advertisements. I don’t have a blog of my own although I enjoy reading others’ blogs. But I know for sure that unless I was blogging for fun that it would never be a successful venture!!

“Very well then: alone.”
Tragically, I’m too old for Brazen Careerist (though I did join to show support at the Time of the Tasteless Tweet) and too tired for a call at 2 am GMT. I suppose I’ll just have to blunder on as best I can.
It would be nice to see a recording, if this can be arranged.

Nice and informative article. Most people want to know how to make money through the blogs they made. By knowing how then it’s a probably a good idea.

I always look for blogs saying how you can make money online through there blog after all the more ways you can make money the better knowledge is power.

Meeting your goals seems real interesting. And I’m always looking for web site tips. I think a tape and (preferably) transcript would be real nice.

I too am interested in these blog web tips. I don’t understand all that much about blogs yet and think you will be able to provide alot of great tips. I agree it would be nice for a transcript…easy to fit in my schedule. Thanks.

I definitely think there would be an advantage to posting this for everyone who cannot attend. Heck, a transcript would be even better but I realize that’s tons of work. Looking forward to it.

there is nothing like making money from your blog , i have read so many stories about that.

It amy have been possible to make a fortune from blogging a while back but I doubt that many do so now, I have a few blogs but I doubt I get more than $500 a year from them and that in no way covers my time and effort. Still we live in hope.

For the record, I’ve never had more than 2 beers before a webcast. Penelope thinks that 2 beers = drunk because she is a lightweight.

It is getting harder and harder to make money with blogs, but it is still possible. Just takes a lot of work.

Infotainment. Watching it right now. It’s hilarious. Laughing out loud at Penelope and Ryan attempting to get a word in.
I’m glad I made the time for this. Please do another one soon.
P.S. Penelope you are great even when you are grumpy and complaining. Allen W is crazy and annoying. I think he might be in love with you. Yeah ban him.

I did not go inside the video chat, but I did see the whole session. Discard my first post. Penelope, I found you very fascinating and such a character. I am going to follow your blog for now on. Thank you Penelope and Ryan for the tips. 2010 is the year of blog improvement!

The timing of this call was perfect for me – 9am my time. Thanks for that.
I took one point away from the webinar – don’t try to make money off your blog. That’s liberating for me because I never thought I would anyway, now I’m okay with not even trying.

I’m not one to balk when someone drops an F bomb, and I sincerely value quirkiness, but I really felt that your message, your intelligence, and your value proposition, were overshadowed by your juvenile behavior. Which, unlike Gerty, I didn’t find hilarious. Plus, your disdain for those of us who bothered to log in to hear you speak about a topic that you are apparently bored with, kind of pissed me off.
Posted by Donna on March 2, 2010 at 8:57 pm | permalink |
Thank you for sharing some of your thoughts regarding the subject of blogging. Aside from all the jokes and the fact you were very entertaining by being bored
I learned and re-discovered great tips about making a blog successful…
I learned to avoid blogging with the solely goal to make money off blog ads, to not worry about other people copying the content of my blog, to use my own voice to achieve uniqueness (everyone is already unique), to not worry too much about the design of my blog and very importantly… to make an effort and leave good comments in popular blogs to hopefully generate some interest and traffic to my own blog
