[...] This is a blog about finding the work you love to do in midlife so no surprise here that I can be just that little bit controversial on why I think the old rules of work are outdated. We all know that competition is fierce these days and the tried and tested processes and traditional structures just don’t work anymore. There are newer and infinitely more satisfying ways on how to be more effective .
Penelope-

I think your new look is great as well. And thanks for mentioning my book, The No A**hole Rule. Your readers might be interested in taking the on line self-test that we put together, which we call the ARSE. You can take it at http://electricpulp.com/guykawasaki/arse/

Also, on connecting with people, your lessons about the importance of connecting with people in an authentic way is one of the main lessons we've learned from teaching our classes on Creating Infectious Action in the d.school. Indeed, I think of one of our biggest failures .... engineers and MBAs with no real appreciation or understanding of hip-hop trying to promote it at Stanford. Total failure. They were, however, quite effective at spreading Firefox, because of course, that is something authentic for a young engineer or marketer.

Penelope -

Love the the new look of your blog - very engaging!

I really resonate with your first point about picking a pace that's right for you. Too many people think "fast" is the only way throught the business world when really it leads to a lot of chaos and confusion. How many of us have learned the hard way that haste makes oh so much waste at work sometimes? It can also lead to a state being called "overwhelm" by some researchers. Their solution? Go in "super slow motion" until you get your feet back on the ground. It sounds counter-intuitive, but ultimately you'll save yourself time and chaos. Happy President's Day!
